Keeping Quiet

The battle to keep a quiet and content heart is not easy. Circumstances are so powerful an influence, and they constantly remind us that we are in a broken world. Plans are disrupted. Hopes are not fulfilled. Even our sweetest and best days are very short, and letting them go brings its own kind of pain.

Recently read:
"Unbelief puts circumstances between itself and Christ, so as not to see Him...Faith puts Christ between itself and circumstances, so that it cannot see them" (F. B. Meyer, quoted in Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert, p. 70).

"A quiet heart is content with what God gives. It is enough. All is grace. ...
"He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest" (Elisabeth Elliot, Keep a Quiet Heart, p. 19-20).
