2 Weeks with Elliot

Remembering fondly...

Elliot at 2 weeks old

Josiah at 2 weeks old

Victor at 2 weeks old

It's hard to believe it's already been 2 weeks since welcoming Elliot ... and hard to believe it's only been 2 weeks.

Since the first day, he's been a good eater (every. 2. hours. without. fail. for the first several days). It was on the hour, every even hour, for the first couple days at home, but we're normally closer to 3 hours between feedings now. So far he has also been a very good sleeper--normally falling asleep during feedings and just waking up when he gets hungry again, aside from some awake time in the morning and an hour or so in the evening.

He's a mellow boy, not fussy much. Unless he's hungry, in which case pretty much nothing will console him except for a full belly.

Both big brothers are delighted with him. Josiah loves to hold him and give him sweet, gentle kisses on his forehead a hundred times a day. Victor watches him intently, brings him little toy animals to play with, tells him what is going on, wants to show him things, and is always thinking about him. One day I was going to take the big boys out for an errand, and Victor was concerned. "I think Elliot will be sad," he told me. I said, "Why don't I give Elliot to Grammy, and she will snuggle him, and I think he will be happy, happy." He looked satisfied and then went to be sure Grammy was prepared, "Mommy and Josiah and I are going to go for our trip, but you can stay here with Elliot and hold him." (Maybe he thought I was going to leave Elliot here on his own?)

The transition to 3 children has been wonderfully smoothed by having Grammy here (she mercifully decided to stay a 2nd week because Ben is still so busy with classes and work). The rubber meets the road this weekend, when she heads home again. :)

But in general it has been 2 delightful weeks of snuggling this tiny little bundle, soaking in the sunshine, and finding a new kind of normal.
